A Toast to A Century at Bar Hemingway – Ritz Paris
One hundred years after Scribner first put The Sun Also Rises into readers' hands, the Hemingway Ltd. Board of Directors – Angela Hemingway Charles & Patrick Hemingway Adams – returned to Paris to inaugurate the centennial for the next generation of the author’s immense legacy. The Ritz Paris has carried Hemingway's name on its bar since 1979, though Hemingway cemented his presence in the hotel long before when he strolled in to "liberate" it in 1944. Now, on September 21st 2026, history came full circle as Hemingway Ltd. and the Ritz co-hosted a cocktail celebration to initiate a forthcoming year of centennial events.
The following day, a press luncheon in the same room laid out the year ahead: film adaptations of both The Sun Also Rises and A Farewell to Arms now in development, the 75th anniversary of The Old Man and the Sea approaching next year, a LEGO® Ideas set built around that same novel, the establishment of the Estate’s first global fishing licensee with the Ernest Hemingway Fishing Co., and more still to come – a slate built to carry Hemingway's work to new readers for the next hundred years.
Angela Hemingway Charles – widow of Hemingway's eldest son, Jack, and Founder and Executive Chairman of Hemingway Ltd. – and Patrick Hemingway Adams — Ernest's great-grandson, and President and Treasurer of Hemingway Ltd. – anchored both days with their remarks and presence. Reflection on their return to Paris and the transcendent spirit of The Sun Also Rises 100 years later:

The two days also marked the debut of a new collaboration: a limited-edition Moleskine notebook, created for the novel’s centennial and given to guests at both events – the beginning of a collaboration deeply rooted in the Hemingway spirit of writing wherever your travels take you.
